BVFD Member App
Deleting your account
Effective October 23, 2026
The BVFD Member App is for members of the Bumpass Volunteer Fire Department. Your app account is your department membership: you sign in with your bumpassfire.org Google account. This page explains how to ask for your account and data to be deleted, what is deleted, and what the department must keep.
How to ask
- In the app: open More, choose Request account deletion, and send the request. You can add a reason if you wish.
- Without the app: email admin@bumpassfire.org from your department account, or ask any officer. Say that you want your member app account deleted.
An officer reviews every request and replies to your department email. Nothing is deleted automatically, because some records must be kept (below) and the department checks each one before removing anything.
Deleted straight away
As soon as you send the request from the app:
- App sessions. You are signed out of the app on every phone, and every app sign-in session is ended.
- Push notification tokens. The tokens that let the department send alerts to your phones are deleted, so no more alerts are sent.
- Files cached on your phone. Documents and photos the app opened or prepared are kept in its private cache and are removed when you are signed out. Uninstalling the app removes everything it stored on the phone.
Deleted after review
- Your profile details that the department is not required to keep, such as your phone number, personal email, home address, birthday, uniform sizes, photo and voice recognition sample.
- Chat messages you sent are kept for the conversation, so the other members can still follow it, but they are no longer linked to your name once your account is removed. They then show as from a former member.
- Your Ember Guide conversations are not stored by the department. They live only in the app while it is open (each question is sent to Anthropic to be answered, as the Privacy Policy explains).
Kept by law or department policy
Like any fire department, BVFD must keep certain records after a member leaves, for state and county reporting, audits, benefits and its own bylaws. These are kept, and are not deleted on request:
- Your membership record:your name, membership dates, status, role and department address, so the department’s roster and history stay accurate.
- Meeting minutes and attendance records, which are the department’s official record.
- Training and certification records, including releases and certificates on file.
- LOSAP and hours records: the hours you logged and the Length of Service Award Program records that depend on them.
- Financial records of expenses you submitted, with their receipts.
- Records of equipment and gear issued to you, and the department’s security audit log.
These records stay members-only and are kept only as long as the law or the department’s retention rules require.
